Evil Dead

The remake of Evil Dead arrives in theaters this week, and last month we were surprised to learn that producer Sam Raimi (director of the original film from 1981) would take this summer to write Evil Dead 4. Then when news came that Raimi's Ghost House Productions banner was already looking at a sequel to the remake, we also heard that Evil Dead 4 was going to be more along the lines of Army of Darkness 2. Everyone still with us? Well, at WonderCon this past weekend, the horror remake had a panel with director Fede Alvarez who has big plans for the future of Evil Dead, including combining both franchises.

Alvarez confirms that he'd like to make a sequel to his remake while Raimi works on the Evil Dead 4/Army of Darkness 2 script, and ComingSoon says a seventh film would combine the worlds of both films for one hell of a finale. Franchise star Bruce Campbell commented, "I think seven is a nice number." Considering the tone of Army of Darkness and the remake of Evil Dead seem to be so different, it'll be interesting to see how the two worlds combine after each timeline gets their own sequel. Of course, this could all just be a pipe dream since Evil Dead has to perform well at the box office to even make this plan a possibility. Stay tuned.
