Pixar Confirms 'Nemo' Sequel 'Finding Dory' Set for November 2015

by Alex Billington
April 2, 2013

Finding Dory

Even though we have to wait over two more years to see this, Disney and Pixar have officially confirmed and announced details on the Finding Nemo sequel. It will be officially called Finding Dory, which certainly hints at the plot, and will be arriving in theaters on Wednesday, November 25th, 2015, Thanksgiving week. It was first revealed last summer that Andrew Stanton would be returning to Pixar after making John Carter to develop this new Finding Nemo sequel. Ellen DeGeneres is also confirmed to return as the voice of Dory, which is just perfect. "There is no Dory without Ellen," said Stanton. We couldn't agree more.

The studio released an early logo for the film, which we've included below for reference. Lookin' good so far!

Pixar's Finding Dory

Here's the rest of the press release from Disney with quotes and some minor plot details mentioned within:

When Dory said "just keep swimming" in 2003's Oscar®-winning film "Finding Nemo," she could not have imagined what was in store for her (not that she could remember). Ellen DeGeneres, voice of the friendly-but-forgetful blue tang fish, revealed details today about Disney•Pixar's "Finding Dory"—an all-new big-screen adventure diving into theaters on Nov. 25, 2015.

"I have waited for this day for a long, long, long, long, long, long time," said DeGeneres. "I'm not mad it took this long. I know the people at Pixar were busy creating 'Toy Story 16.' But the time they took was worth it. The script is fantastic. And it has everything I loved about the first one: It's got a lot of heart, it's really funny, and the best part is—it's got a lot more Dory."

Director and Pixar veteran Andrew Stanton takes audiences back to the extraordinary underwater world created in the original film. "There is no Dory without Ellen," said Stanton. "She won the hearts of moviegoers all over the world—not to mention our team here at Pixar. One thing we couldn't stop thinking about was why she was all alone in the ocean on the day she met Marlin. In 'Finding Dory,' she will be reunited with her loved ones, learning a few things about the meaning of family along the way."

According to Stanton, "Finding Dory" takes place about a year after the first film, and features returning favorites Marlin, Nemo and the Tank Gang, among others. Set in part along the California coastline, the story also welcomes a host of new characters, including a few who will prove to be a very important part of Dory's life.

Finding Nemo, released in 2003, was co-directed by Andrew Stanton (WALL-E, A Bug's Life, John Carter) and Lee Unkrich (Toy Story 3) with a script by Stanton, Bob Peterson and David Reynolds. As of February, it was reported that Albert Brooks would also be returning as Marlin in the sequel. The only details from the press release are that it's set on the California coastline this time, and "features returning favorites Marlin, Nemo and the Tank Gang, among others." And seems to involve Dory getting lost - but to where? We'll find out in November of 2015, which seems incredibly far away, but we have a few other Pixar movies to see in the meantime, including Monsters University, The Good Dinosaur, and Pete Docter's Inside Out.

Fear Tech Rulz! 'Monsters University' Website Defaced by Rival School

by Alex Billington

Monsters University Website

Happy April Fools Day from Pixar! This is awesome. We already featured one fantastically brilliant April Fools joke-turned-promo today (this Pineapple Express 2 teaser) but here's another one that earns a top spot. Pixar's Monsters University viral website, designed to be a fully operational university website, has been defaced today by the rival school "Fear Tech". Similar to the way the Joker suddenly defaced all The Dark Knight viral websites back in 2008, the site has spray paint all over and the color theme was changed to orange. It's a hilarious April Fools rivalry joke that works brilliantly in the context of this MU viral site.

Click on the screenshot below to visit the MU.com/edu site and it'll update with the Fear Tech defacing once it loads. The more you try to click on the page, it pops up with more Fear Tech "scare pig" mascot stickers.

Monsters University

This is just a perfectly planned and fun little April Fools Day joke to keep the buzz rampant for Monsters University. I still can't wait to see this new Pixar prequel, and I love all the marketing they've done so far.

A look at the relationship between monsters Mike (voiced by Billy Crystal) and Sulley (voiced by John Goodman) during their days at the University of Fear -- when they weren't necessarily the best of friends.

Pixar's Monsters University is being directed by Dan Scanlon, who went from animator to storyboard artist to writer to co-director on Mater and the Ghostlight, making his feature directorial debut. This is a prequel to Pixar's animated movie Monsters Inc, originally released in November of 2001. Disney has Monsters University scheduled for release in Digital 3D everywhere June 21st, 2013 this summer. Visit: MU.com.

by Ethan Anderton
April 2, 2013
Source: Facebook

The Conjuring

"This thing has latched itself to your family" After the first creepy teaser trailer for James Wan's horror The Conjuring, which almost felt like a short film in itself, the full theatrical trailer is here, and we're finally introduced to Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as seekers of the supernatural. The two ghost hunters venture to the house of Lily Taylor and Ron Livingston as their family is being terrorized by aggressive spirits. This looks like a really special horror film with flares of a variety of horror films from Poltergeist to Paranormal Activity and more. James Wan may have another horror hit right here. Watch!

Here's the full trailer for James Wan's The Conjuring from the film's Facebook page:

Tribeca Trailer for Indie Thriller 'A Single Shot' Starring Sam Rockwell

by Ethan Anderton
April 2, 2013
Source: The Film Stage

A Single Shot

Later this year, audiences will get a chance to see Sam Rockwell have some fun as he helps Liam James work through some social anxiety over a tumultuous summer turned life-changing experience in The Way, Way Back (read my Sundance review here). But before that, he's getting gritty and serious in A Single Shot, which is playing at the Tribeca Film Festival later this month after premiering in Berlin earlier this year. In the film Rockwell plays John Moon, who gets involved in an accidental crime, all while trying to get his family back together. It looks pretty tense and seems to showcase the raw talent of Rockwell yet again.

Here's the Tribeca trailer for David M. Rosenthal's A Single Shot, found via The Film Stage:

A Single Shot is directed by David M. Rosenthal (Janie Jones) and written by Matthew F. Jones, who adapted his own 1996 novel of the same name. Sam Rockwell stars in the film as John Moon, a man attempting to win back his estranged family while desperately outrunning an accidental crime. William H. Macy, Melissa Leo and Jeffrey Wright also star in the film which premiered at the Berlin Film Festival earlier this year and plays the Tribeca Film Festival later this month starting on April 17th. The film doesn't yet have distribution for a theatrical release, but we'll be sure to keep you posted when information surfaces.

Slick 'Captain America 2' and 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Concept Art

by Ethan Anderton
April 2, 2013
Source: Geek Zenith

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Today, the sweet Blu-Ray box set for Phase One of Marvel's cinematic universe was unleashed, and while there's a short video preview going around online, it seems to be just a taste of the full video and features only Iron Man 3 footage that we've seen before. We're hoping there's some stuff from Thor: The Dark World on the way, but in the meantime, how about some concept art for the releases that are further down the road? Geek Zenith (via Latino Review) got ahold of alleged concept art from Captain America: The Winter Solider and Guardians of the Galaxy. The style certainly fits with Marvel's work. Look below!

Here's the concept art from Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain America: The Winter Soldier:

Guardians of the Galaxy - Concept Art

Guardians of the Galaxy - Concept Art

Guardians of the Galaxy - Concept Art

Captain America: The Winter Soldier - Concept Art

Now, there's a slight chance that this concept art could be fake, especially since Geek Zenith isn't usually at the forefront of exclusives like this, but it does look pretty official. The characters in the Guardians of the Galaxy bar scene (clearly reminiscent of the Mos Eisley cantina in Star Wars) certainly look very similar to the initial piece of concept art released at Comic-Con last year (though that wouldn't be hard to replicate for a good artist). Those other cosmic pieces including the seemingly alien world and giant ship are also from the forthcoming cosmic superhero ensemble, and it looks pretty damn epic.

Meanwhile, that Captain America: The Winter Soldier art is pretty bad ass and features a great rendering of Chris Evans fighting James "Bucky" Barnes as the titular villain, though it looks more like Tom Hiddleston as Loki and less like Sebastian Stan. The action looks like it's taking place in the middle of traffic with that car skidding in the background. Maybe Steve Rogers was riding his motorcycle and ends up getting attacked by Bucky. We're not sure. This art could just as easily turn out to be fake, but either way, it's some fine work and gets us excited. Hopefully we hear more about Phase Two very soon. Cool stuff?

'This is the End' Reveals Faux 'Pineapple Express 2' Red Band Trailer

by Ethan Anderton
April 1, 2013
Source: Yahoo

This is the End

"We should make sequels to more of our movies." Now this is some clever marketing. As you may be aware, it's a dangerous day to be on the Internet due to April Fool's Day, but the filmmakers behind This is the End, the apocalyptic comedy starring Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, Jonah Hill, James Franco, Danny McBride and Craig Robinson decided to use that to their advantage. Below you'll find what appears to be a trailer for a cash grab sequel to Pineapple Express, but really it's just a red band trailer for This is the End with the exaggerated versions of these actors getting baked and watching the stoner comedy. Watch!

Here's the red band trailer for Pineapple Express 2, or, This is the End, found on Yahoo:

This is the End is written and directed by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg (who wrote Superbad together) and follows Seth Rogen and Jay Baruchel attending a party at James Franco's house with a bunch of other celebrities when the end of the world begins out of nowhere. Jonah Hill, Danny McBride, Craig Robinson, Jason Segel, Michael Cera, David Krumholtz, Rihanna, Emma Watson and many more all have cameos in the film which is just one of two apocalyptic comedies arriving next year (the other is Edgar Wright's The World's End with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost). Sony Pictures will open This is the End starting June 14th.

Seth Rogen, James Franco, Jay Baruchel, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride, Craig Robinson and Emma Watson star, with appearances by Michael Cera and Rhianna.

Clint Eastwood Circling Adaptation of Musical 'Jersey Boys' to Direct

by Ethan Anderton
April 1, 2013
Source: THR

Jersey boys

While the director has been trying to get a remake of A Star is Born off the ground, Clint Eastwood might still get his hands on a musical movie after all. Though Iron Man and Cowboys & Aliens director Jon Favreau was looking to slow down on the action for an adaptation of the hit musical Jersey Boys at Columbia Pictures, producer Graham King moved the project to Warner Bros. once he got a first look deal with the studio. They put the project in turnaround and Favreau sadly fell to the wayside as it looked for a new home. Now it sounds like it might have life yet again as Eastwood is circling the project as a director.

Though the project had Fox's interest, THR says Eastwood's involvement has WB taking a second glance. For those just joining us, who may not be familiar with the musical, the story follows Frank Valli, Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito and Nick Massi as they went from blue-collar wrong side of the track origins to pop sensations the Four Seasons, selling 175 million records worldwide before they were 30 years old. But it wasn't to last forever as the group eventually broke up. It sounds like this would be Eastwood's next project and he would then do A Star is Born if he can actually get a cast together. Stay tuned for updates.

'G.I. Joe: Retaliation' 3D Box Office Success Means Another Sequel

by Ethan Anderton
April 1, 2013
Source: Variety

G.I. Joe: Retaliation

This weekend may not have turned out so well for fans of Stephenie Meyer as the adaptation of her sci-fi novel The Host debuted at #6 in the box office. However, nostalgia and big action had no problem raking in the cash as the delayed G.I. Joe: Retaliation took the top spot with an estimated $41.2 million. There's no telling whether the 3D Conversion will result in a higher box office, but Dwayne Johnson, Bruce Willis, Adrianne Palicki, a little bit of Channing Tatum and some familiar characters from the G.I. Joe universe still got audiences into the theaters, and Variety says that means another sequel is in the works.

It's a shame the film wasn't really reworked to keep Tatum around, because his death was a bit of a bummer, especially after how well he worked with Johnson in both action and comedy. Though, since the universe that this film exists in is so ridiculous, there's always a chance that he could be brought back to life somehow. Either way, the film has still snagged $132 million worldwide, and that's more than a success for an opening weekend, and it topped the first film worldwide as well.

Since Hasbro and Paramount Pictures are just started development, we're not sure where a third film will go (though Destro will likely step up to bat as a villain this time), but you can be sure that the film will be 3D from the beginning, and maybe even shot natively in the format. At this point, I'm not sure whether or not I would like to see director Jon M. Chu return. He delivered some decent action, but there were some aspects of the film that were kind of sloppy, and maybe someone should take a shot. Thoughts?

Original 'Evil Dead' and Remake Universes Could Collide in a Sequel

by Ethan Anderton
April 1, 2013
Source: ComingSoon

Evil Dead

The remake of Evil Dead arrives in theaters this week, and last month we were surprised to learn that producer Sam Raimi (director of the original film from 1981) would take this summer to write Evil Dead 4. Then when news came that Raimi's Ghost House Productions banner was already looking at a sequel to the remake, we also heard that Evil Dead 4 was going to be more along the lines of Army of Darkness 2. Everyone still with us? Well, at WonderCon this past weekend, the horror remake had a panel with director Fede Alvarez who has big plans for the future of Evil Dead, including combining both franchises.

Alvarez confirms that he'd like to make a sequel to his remake while Raimi works on the Evil Dead 4/Army of Darkness 2 script, and ComingSoon says a seventh film would combine the worlds of both films for one hell of a finale. Franchise star Bruce Campbell commented, "I think seven is a nice number." Considering the tone of Army of Darkness and the remake of Evil Dead seem to be so different, it'll be interesting to see how the two worlds combine after each timeline gets their own sequel. Of course, this could all just be a pipe dream since Evil Dead has to perform well at the box office to even make this plan a possibility. Stay tuned.

Watch: First Quick Teasers for Soderbergh's 'Behind the Candelabra'

by Alex Billington
April 1, 2013
Source: YouTube

Behind the Candelabra

Before Elvis; before Elton John, Madonna, and Lady Gaga, there was Liberace. The one-and-only piano maestro! Yes, they actually made this film, and it won't be hitting theaters because HBO Films picked it up and will be airing the premiere on there later this year. The next feature from Steven Soderbergh is Behind The Candelabra: The Secret Life Of Liberace (everything is explained right in that title), starring Michael Douglas as Liberace and Matt Damon as his lover Scott Thorson. HBO has unveiled two short teasers, the most recent of which (#2) actually contains some footage. It looks as glamorous as you'd expect.

Here are the first two teasers for Steven Soderbergh's Behind the Candelabra, from HBO's YouTube:

HBO Films presents Behind the Candelabra, starring Academy Award winners Michael Douglas and Matt Damon; executive produced by Jerry Weintraub; directed by Steven Soderbergh (Sex Lies and Videotape, Out of Sight, Traffic, Ocean's 11 - 13, Solaris, The Good German, Che, The Girlfriend Experience, The Informant, Contagion, Haywire, Magic Mike, Side Effects) from a screenplay by Oscar nominee Richard LaGravenese (of The Fisher King, The Horse Whisperer, P.S. I Love You, Water for Elephants, Beautiful Creatures). The film is produced by Gregory Jacobs, Susan Ekins and Michael Polaire. HBO will premiere Steven Soderbergh's Behind the Candelabra on their channel May 26th at 9/8c. Anyone interested in this?

Guillermo del Toro Dishes Details on Developing 'Justice League Dark'

by Ethan Anderton
April 1, 2013
Source: ComingSoon

Justice League Dark

Just last fall, we learned that Guillermo del Toro had another developing project in his ever-growing future slate that would bring him back to the world of comic books. Along with Hellboy 3 being a possibility, del Toro has also been developing a project once called Heaven Sent, though it's more commonly being referred to Justice League Dark. As comic book fans might deduce, the film would bring DC Comics characters like Deadman, The Spectre, Swamp Thing, Constantine Hellblazer, Phantom Stranger, Zatanna, Zatara, Sargon and Etrigan the Demon all together in a single film. Thankfully, a fan at WonderCon asked del Toro about the project, and he dished some details on the characters and story.

When asked about Justice League Dark (also called Dark Universe), del Toro said:

On 'Justice League Dark,' or 'Dark Universe,' what we’re doing is we finished the bible. Then we’re going to start the screenplay with a writer we hope we can announce very soon.

What I’m doing is the lead character that guides us through that is Constantine. Blonde. He is basically trying to recruit these guys. On Etrigan, I’m using Jason Blood in the time of Merlin. We get to their origin through the story. We don’t make the origin story at the top. We find it out as they each have mysteries to solve. Swamp Thing is at peace with who he is, but Deadman still needs to figure out who shot him. It’s all woven in. When I was a kid, my two favorite characters in the whole DC Universe were Etrigan and Swamp Thing, so I’m in heaven.

If you didn't follow some of that, ComingSoon clarifies, "the story would feature Jason Blood's history with Merlin and the Knights of King Arthur, bringing a threat to present day." And that's John Constantine, a slightly different version than the one Keanu Reeves' played, recruiting this team to save the world from this threat. And what might that threat be? Well, it seems interesting that del Toro says that he's in heaven, because Superhero Hype has an interesting theory on how the story might play out. They reference a specific storyline from one of the Justice League Dark members' comic history and it ties pretty well into what del Toro said at WonderCon. Here's their explanation of a potential plot for the film:

In June of 1985, issue #37 of the award winning and ever popular “Saga of the Swamp Thing” was published. Written by a quite hairy and hermit-like man named Alan Moore, the comic introduced a character that would go on to be the longest running Vertigo series and the focus of a feature film, John Constantine Hellblazer. This issue also planted the seeds of a monstrous storyline that Moore would tackle down the road. Throughout the course of the next eleven issues, Constantine would meet with the Swamp Thing to discuss his full potential as an avatar of the green, to show him the things he is capable of doing, and to make him see how much bigger the world around him really is.

This "Swamp Thing" storyline took place during a comic book event called “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” which saw the destruction of many different planes and universes. The destruction of all these worlds is the catalyst here and is what a continuously mentioned cult called “The Brujería” use as their opportunity to awaken “The Great Darkness.” Still with me? Remember back to when this Del Toro project was first rumored and it was called “Heaven Sent”? Guess what the target of The Brujería and The Great Darkness actually is? It's not Earth like what Swamp Thing first thought, it's Heaven. The cult plans to destroy Heaven.

This is why the team is formed. Constantine and Swamp Thing spend much of the set-up issues wandering the world (both the physical and other worldly planes) locating and convincing characters to help them stop The Brujería. Along the way they recruit Deadman, The Phantom Stranger, The Spectre, Etrigan the Demon, Dr. Fate, Zatanna, Zatara, Sargon the Sorcerer, Dr. Occult, and Mento to help them (of which most of these have been mentioned by Del Toro as being a part of the cast). Together they all band together as a group of unlikely heroes charged with saving Heaven, and with a band of angels in tow they are indeed “Heaven Sent.”

That sounds pretty damn epic, and perfect for someone like del Toro to bring to life. In addition, the greatest part is that we don't get the traditional origin stories for all these characters like we're used to seeing on the big screen. Instead we learn about their past as this big even unfolds and they have to work together. This is something DC has been struggling with as they attempt to get the regular Justice League off the ground without more than half of the team members being introduced on the big screen yet. However, before everyone gets too excited, del Toro did say they're just getting ready to start writing a script and that he will direct Crimson Peak as his next project. Either way, we can't wait to hear more. Sound cool?

'Elysium' Viral Website Armadyne Gets Sleek Update with Event Info

by Alex Billington
April 2, 2013
Source: MovieViral

Elysium

We don't just dream of a future beyond Earth. We build it. Finally! I've used that word quite a bit recently, but it certainly applies here. At the San Diego Comic-Con in July last year, Sony Pictures initially launched a viral website called Armadyne for Neill Blomkamp's second sci-fi movie Elysium, but that was before the release was delayed until August. With the extra five months, WonderCon (in Anaheim this past weekend) became the new launching point. Now the Armadyne site has been updated completely fresh with new look and new features, as well as links to a Welcome to the Elysium site with big event sneak previews next week.

It's best to suggest just visiting the new Armadyne site (click the screenshot below) and exploring it yourself. The extensive site contains details about the nefarious Armadyne corporation, including who they are, what they manufacture and their goals, and cool products like all their humanoid robots. This originally linked to a page called It's Better Up There, linked to the Border Patrol bot but that now redirects to an Elysium page.

Armadyne Website

In addition, there is another new site discovered in connection with all of this. It can be found at the URL WelcometoElysium.com and provides an info on the space station Elysium, which is where the film's title comes from. In this future, it's an exotic floating world where the wealthy reside. By Appointment Only.

Welcome to Elysium

"You won't find a better home on Earth." Because it isn't on Earth! Nice one. A few of the other little details hidden on these two sites are photos of various staff members who are key cast members in Elysium. From the Elysium site under "Our Leaders" it shows Jodie Foster as their "Defense Secretary" as well as Faran Tahir as "Minister Patel, Elysian President". On the leadership page for Armadyne, you will see William Fichtner as their CEO John Carlyle. Most importantly, on the Elysium site it mentions an "Exclusive Live Demos of Elysium" and yes that means exactly that - they're showing footage from Elysium at a global event on Monday, April 9th, in four cities. We've been hearing teases and it sounds like it's going to be awesome.

Thanks to MovieViral for the tip on this update. I'm happy they're finally getting ready to kick the marketing back into high gear for Elysium, because we've been waiting for so long without anything, not even a trailer. Only those lucky enough to be in Hall H at Comic-Con last year saw the footage, but fans will get a chance next week at these events. We'll be there, too! Follow the Armadyne and Elysium websites for more updates.

Watch: New 'Greetings from Tim Buckley' Trailer Starring Penn Badgley

by Ethan Anderton
April 1, 2013
Source: Apple

Greetings from Tim Buckley

Later this year, the Coen Brothers will dive into the 60's folk music scene in Greenwich Village through their film Inside Llewyn Davis starring Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan and Justin Timberlake. But before that, director Dan Algrant will go back to the 90s in Greetings from Tim Buckley to follow the path of musician Jeff Buckley as he comes to terms with the legacy of his father, living in the famous folk musician's shadow and discovering his own voice, literally and figuratively. Penn Badgley plays the young Buckley with Imogen Poots as an intriguing young woman who influences his life and career. The trailer gives a taste of the soundtrack and impressive performances, and it looks like a decent enough drama. Watch it!

Here's the first trailer for Dan Algrant's Greetings from Tim Buckley, originally from Apple:

Greetings from Tim Buckley tells the true story of the days leading up to Jeff Buckley’s (Penn Badgley) 1991 performance at his father’s tribute concert in St. Ann’s Church. Through a romance with a young woman (Imogen Poots) working at the concert, the younger Buckley comes to understand the father who abandoned him. The musician's cathartic performance of his father’s most famous songs results in a stunning performance which launches his career as one of the greatest young musicians of his time. Daniel Algrant (People I Know) directed the film which played at TIFF 2012 and arrives in limited theaters on May 3rd.

Watch: Norwegian Adventure Film 'Ragnarok' First Subtitled Trailer

by Alex Billington
April 2, 2013
Source: YouTube

Ragnarok Trailer

"Man knows little." As much as I was hoping this was an epic action-adventure on the scale of 13th Warrior or Beowulf or Outlander, it actually seems to be more of a family adventure similar to National Treasure. Nordisk Film and Mangolia Pictures have released the first subtitled trailer for Ragnarok, originally Gåten Ragnarok, starring Norwegian actor Pål Sverre Hagen, seen in last year's Oscar nominated film Kon-Tiki. This is actually more of a teaser with gorgeous sweeping shots of a family on some adventure raiding Viking graves and hugging each other, but beyond that, I'm not sure what they're going to encounter. Take a look!

Here's the full (English subtitled) trailer for Mikkel Brænne Sandemose's Ragnarok, found on YouTube:

When the archaeologist Sigurd can't settle on the myth about Ragnarok, the end of the world in Northern mythology, he decides to go on an expedition together with two colleges and his two kids. This adventure leads them to Finnmark in Norway, and into "No Man's Land", where no one has been in modern times.

Fantefilm is behind the upcoming "large scale action-adventure film" (straight from their YouTube) which stars actor Pål Sverre Hagen (Kon-Tiki) as an archeologist obsessed with the Oseberg Viking ship. Gåten Ragnarok is directed by Norwegian filmmaker Mikkel Brænne Sandemose, of only the film "Cold Prey 3" previously. No US release date has been set by Magnolia yet, but it will hit Norwegian theaters this August.

Watch: First Trailer for the Sequel 'Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters'

by Ethan Anderton
April 1, 2013
Source: MTV

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters

After getting a glimpse of the first look photos last week, Logan Lerman is officially back in hero form in the first trailer for Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, the sequel to the franchise starter Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief. Joined again by his companions Alexandra Daddario as Annabeth and Brandon T. Jackson as the satyr Grover, Percy is out to save his homeland and Camp Half-Blood from some destruction. With the MacGuffin in this sequel being a Golden Fleece, our heroes must face more danger in the Bermuda Triangle. It looks kind of cheap, but hey, there's Nathan Fillion.

Here's the first trailer for Thor Freudenthal's Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, via MTV:

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters is directed by Thor Freudenthal with a script by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski. The sequel finds Percy Jackson, the son of Poseidon, continuing his epic journey to fulfill his destiny, as he teams with his demigod friends to retrieve the Golden Fleece, which has the power to save their home and training ground, Camp Half-Blood. Logan Lerman, Alexandra Daddario and Brandon T. Jackson reprise their roles from the first film and are joined by the likes of Nathan Fillion, Douglas Smith, Leven Rambin, Stanley Tucci and more. The film hits theaters on August 16th late this summer. Cool?

Just this past February, we got word that Charlize Theron would replace Amy Adams in the gestating adaptation of Gillian Flynn's Dark Places, a thriller that follows a young Kansas girl named Libby who witnesses the massacre of her mother and sister, testifies against her brother as the murderer, and is visited 25 years later by a secret society called the Kill Club that claims her brother is innocent. Reliving the traumatic incident is the only way to be sure of what happened, but by retracing her steps, Libby again finds herself being chased by a killer. Now Theron has her first co-star as Deadline reports Chloe Moretz is in talks to join the film as a character named Diondra, though we're not sure how she fits in the story. Read on!

Moretz has been busy this year with another guest appearance on the final season of "30 Rock," not to mention three big screen roles in Movie 43 and the forthcoming Kick-Ass 2 and also the remake of Carrie (with a new trailer coming later this week). She's a welcome addition to any cast, and is blossoming from a fine young child actress to a very talented young woman. French director Gilles Paquet-Brenner (Sarah's Key) will be directing her this time around with Theron also producing by way of her Denver and Delilah Productions banner. The book is only a few years old, and Flynn is obviously still a popular author since her book Gone Girl just recently caught the eye of Fight Club and The Social Network director David Fincher for his potential next project, so this should be a solid thriller.

Mortal Instruments: City of Bones Trailer

"You are the key to our survival." If you're interested, Screen Gems has revealed the second, full theatrical trailer for The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, based on Cassandra Clare's book of the same name. Another fantasy action-adventure young adult series, Lily Collins stars as Clary Fray, a seemingly normal teen girl who learns she is a "Shadowhunter", a group that hunts invisible demons. The cast includes Jamie Campbell Bower, Robert Sheehan, Lena Headey, Kevin Durand, CCH Pounder, Jared Harris and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers. Warning: it doesn't look that great, but I'm sure you already expected that.

Here's the second full trailer for The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, in high def from Apple:

Harald Zwart (The Karate Kid, Agent Cody Banks) directs Mortal Instruments: City of Bones written by I. Marlene King and Jessica Postigo and based on Cassandra Clare's book of the same name. Lily Collins (The Blind Side, Priest) plays Clary Fray, a young woman who discovers she is the descendant of a secret cadre of half-angel warriors called "Shadowhunters" locked in an ancient battle to protect the world from demons. Robert Sheehan, Kevin Zegers, Aidan Turner, Jemima West, Godfrey Gao and Kevin Zegers also star. Sony's Screen Gems arm will release Mortal Instruments in theaters starting August 23rd this summer. Anyone?

Peter Jackson's April Fools Joke Was a 'Star Wars: Episode VIII' Script?

by Alex Billington

Peter Jackson Script

So, what would you think if Peter Jackson was directing one of the new Star Wars movies? Because I wouldn't be surprised if Lucasfilm/Disney is trying to make it happen. Hidden in that funky new behind-the-scenes The Desolation of Smaug teaser video released by Peter Jackson yesterday, on April 1st, is what could potentially be a huge movie geek Easter Egg / April Fools joke, or a massive tease at what's to come. Many fans noticed that at one point near the end, around 4:51, Jackson fumbles around his desk for artwork and a Star Wars script briefly falls out. We took a closer look ourselves and it's definitely there. See below!

Here's a screenshot we took directly from the 1080P high def version of the upload, at 4:51 into the video, showing the script and its cover as clearly as I could get it. "Peter Jackson" is written across it along with the title block for Star Wars: Episode VIII. Yes that would be 8, not J.J.'s Episode 7, but the one after that.

Peter Jackson Star Wars Script

I can tell from my own experience that visually at least it's a real script, with the name diagonal across it like that and even the other text below it. However, Jackson is a screenwriter himself and could easily create his own fake version of this kind of script in no time, so it's not all that revealing that it looks completely real. Head to YouTube to see the video yourself. Thanks to GeekTyrant and our commenters for the tip on this.

Then again, what if it is real? We can certainly dream, right? How about that - J.J. Abrams directing Star Wars: Episode VII, then Peter Jackson directing Episode VIII. Heck, if they pull that off, who would they get for IX - Steven Spielberg? Wouldn't that be one hell of a line-up of Star Wars directors. Oddly, Jackson doesn't mention anything about Star Wars the entire video, but after watching it multiple times, the setup is too obvious with the script being on top of the art he's grabbing for it to be anything but planted for fans. It's likely nothing but a damn good April Fools Day joke, but an amusing one to consider the reality of at least.

Kickstart or Die: 'Darkwing Duck,' 'Family Matters,' 'Sliders' & More

Family Matters

With the success of fans using Kickstarter to fund the gestating film adaptation of the series "Veronica Mars", there's a plethora of fans trying to get their various shows on the big screen, and some of the talent is listening (like Zachary Levi talking about a "Chuck" movie). Yesterday, Funny or Die took it to the extreme by launching Kickstart or Die, with a series of projects they're trying to get funded based on series from the 90s. Honestly, I wouldn't be adverse to a movie for Sliders or Darkwing Duck, but there's also Family Matters, a one-man show with Baby Sinclair from Dinosaurs and a Wings revival.

Kickstart Sliders, Darkwing Duck, Family Matters, Dinosaurs and Wings from Kickstart or Die:

The Dinosaurs one falls a bit flat, but the rest of them are pretty damn great. It's awesome to see Jim Cummings in the flesh and lending his voice to this Darkwing Duck gag, and it's always good to see Reginald VelJohnson in a police officer's uniform again. Fun fact: he actually voiced a character in the Tron Uprising animated series on Disney XD. Tony Shalhoub is hilarious in the Wings campaign video and we're glad Jerry O'Connell got some more work for this Sliders bit. But honestly, if any of these movies were real aspirations, Sliders would be fun, especially with all the sci-fi goodness on the way.
